It is a secure, fast and decentralized content delivery network (CDN) that allows users to easily upload and share files.
When a user uploads a file using Scala Share, at first it is pinned locally on Scala’s IPFS gateways. Then, the hash of the file that the user uploaded is relayed to the Scala’s Diardi nodes, which also pin the file according to the expiry requirements on IPFS.
For the moment, the tool is completely free. Scala is working on defining use cases that will allow the use of XLA coins to unlock premium features and bring more value to the application.
Yes, the current version only supports file size up to 100 MB.
Any type of file, as long as it complies with our Terms of Use.
Scala is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency project linking distributed technologies to build a globally scalable and mobile-friendly ecosystem. More information here: https://scala.network/.
The Scala network provides the Diardi nodes, which are essentially notary nodes that checkpoint blocks from the public mainnnet. These nodes were also fitted with code that allows them to pin files on IPFS for a given amount of time.
• It uses Scala's Diardi nodes to pin files ephemerally and ensure storage space for a certain period of time
• The underlying IPFS technology ensures decentralization and security
• It is open source, easily scalable and fast
To prioritize user privacy and ensure efficient system performance, all uploaded files are available for a maximum of 12 hours. This time limit protects your data by minimizing exposure, giving you ample time to download your files before they are automatically deleted. Additionally, the files are securely stored on Scala's notary nodes, which have limited disk space to maintain optimal functionality.
The pinned hash is unpinned from Scala's notary nodes, but will stay on IPFS as long as someone hosts it.
When you upload a file, the generated URL is stored on the local storage of your browser. This means that the URLs generated by Scala Share will persist even after the browser window is closed.
Yes, we are working on implementing a Premium feature that will be available for registered users, providing options to define longer pin expiration time for the files as well as more storage settings.
We have received a development grant from Unstoppable Domains. We have also been collaborating with IPFS to develop Scala's notary nodes (Diardi).
We cannot take down the files that are uploaded on Scala Share, we can only stop pinning the files using Scala's Diardi nodes. The users are free to pin locally whatever content they desire without restrictions.
